We had two shows back to back yesterday. A 3pm and a 7:30pm. The space was beautiful, old, and tiny. The set almost didn't fit. But it made for a really intimate set of performances.
Rick McVey waving in the lower left corner...
After the first performance, Rebecca took my camera and did a little investigating of Wacovian signage...
At the end of the day, I was exhausted. Rick McVey said that what I needed was ice cream. I agreed. We soon found ourselves at an IHOP. I ended up ordering New York Cheese Cake Pancakes. Yeah.
New York Cheese Cake Pancakes...
So I at them...
And paid the price...
But they were actually really good.
Today we head out to Austin for an evening show.
Looking forward to seeing what we shall see...
I am Everett (Evert), and I will be posting for Grace Ann Wolf since her claws got in the way when she tried to do so herself. She did want me to tell you one thing: She would very much appreciate it if you would bring her ANYTHING from IHOP when you get back to Abingdon! She has to BEG for every tiny morsel of food that she is fed at home!
ReplyDeleteShe does know (and occasionally bite) the hand that feeds her, though. She was sitting next to me and allowing me to stroke her back after I came in from seeing HEAVEN SENT Sunday afternoon. Then suddenly she said, "Later, chump!" and she jumped down to the floor. She stood very still, with only the tip of her tail twitching in excitement. She asked me, "Do you hear? It's HIM!" And sure enough, I looked through the living room window to see Eugene's car pulling into his driveway. Given the time of day, his arrival meant only one thing to her: It's SUPPERTIME!
I spent a couple of days in Abingdon this weekend, seeing FRANKENSTEIN, HEAVEN SENT, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, TOM SAWYER (this morning) and the totally-violent, totally-crappy, yet-somehow-satisfying-in-more-ways-than-one movie LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. It reminded me of my trips to NYC in the 1990s, when I would see 3-4 plays and 3-4 movies in 3-4 days. It's good to know that I can still do that in Abingdon!
Beginning on the first Saturday in November, I will be spending 5 days in Kentucky (Danville and Hazard) and Abingdon to visit a friend (near Danville, KY), see OF MICE AND MEN (in Hazard on November 10th), and attend a matinee of HEAVEN SENT (on November 11th).
When I ordered my ticket for OF MICE AND MEN, I told the woman to whom I was speaking on the telephone that "the big guy who plays Lennie is very good." Of course, you all are, which is why I am seeing the show again even though I saw it twice last winter at the Barter.
I have also told my friends in Texas and California about the tour. I suppose I could mention it to my brother in Maine, who's actually a graduate of the Univesrity of Maine at Orono, but I think the only show title he knows is CATS. On those infrequent occasions when we spoke on the telephone about my trips to New York back when I was young (I mean back in the 20th century), he would ask me if I were going to see CATS. And I would say, "No..." I have never seen CATS, I have never wanted to see CATS, and the only CATS I have really liked are Grace Ann Wolf (even though she occasionally draws blood) and the late Pee Wee Doss, my sister's white Persian.
Y'all keep doing what y'all do, and continue to enjoy your time on the road. It sounds like a wonderful experience.
